Protea Ridge

Health and Safety

Health and Safety is taken very seriously at Protea Ridge. This is a Wild and Remote part of the world and care needs to be taken every day. Move with  caution and open eyes and always be concerned with what is happening around you.

THE COVID-19 age is upon us.

We have put specific measures in place to ensure the safety of our employees and our guests. On a daily basis, we are working to ensure that we meet the latest guidance on hygiene and cleaning.

Staff Training and Protocol

Our staff members have received training in the nature and severity of COVID-19 and related viruses to ensure the safety of themselves and our guests, including rules around the washing of hands, practising social distance and the use of personal protective equipment.

PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory at our premises. This includes the use of face masks and hand sanitiser stations.

Cleaning and disinfecting procedures

We use cleaning products and protocols which are effective against viruses in all areas accessible to staff and guests. This applies to all areas including guest rooms, public areas, dining areas and staff quarters.

Laundry

We have adopted an in-house laundry protocol to ensure the efficient disinfecting of bedding, re-useable face masks and garments.

ADDITIONALLY

All guests enter and use the PROTEA RIDGE FACILITIES  entirely at their own risk.

The nearest hospital is in Lusikisiki and Protea Ridge has good relations with one of the local doctors who is always available telephonically in case of emergencies.

Please always be cognizant that we are in the remote regions of South Africa’s Wild Coast when hiking, swimming or adventuring. A simple fall requiring stitches is not so simple if it happens here.

In case of extreme emergencies we have the number of various chopper pilots in the rare event of someone needing to be airlifted to Margate and the advanced Port Shepstone hospital.

Common sense usually prevails. Use it daily.

A basic medical kit and broad spectrum antibiotics course is always kept at Protea Ridge.

Important Note

PLEASE BE AWARE

Municipal services do not reach far down into the rural areas. With this in mind please remember:

All water at Protea Ridge is either harvested during rainy days for drinking, or pumped from the borehole to the concrete reservoir for kitchens, bathrooms and showers. Please use water sparingly and considerately.

Littering is not tolerated at Protea Ridge. Use the bins provided.

Stow it, don’t throw it.

Protea Ridge is serviced by Eskom but only has limited generator power for emergencies and for keeping deep freezers cold. Always bring a torch as management has no control over the Eskom power supply. Candles and/or small solar lights are provided.
