Protea Ridge

Vulture Colony Route

This route offers a few options. Best time is to leave mid afternoon for a three hour hike from the “homestay” at Protea Ridge and follow the contour And goat path  all the way to the edge of the Msikaba Gorge. From here wind your way past the front and then eventually directly over, the glorious Vulture Falls, where the vultures regularly wash, allowing one the opportunity to find a Cape Vulture feather. From here it’s a bit of a climb past the wreck of the Robinson 44 chopper crash and wreckage from a few years previously and up to the Msikaba Vulture Colony viewing deck for quiet sundowners and a chance to hear the vultures feeding their chicks and soaring below. This is an incredible hike.
